The TimeSink and related domains
The TimeSink...
Created one late night during a thunderstorm on a raised platform above the laboratory as the lightning stuck, this is the monster that spawned a domain. Here you'll find daily bits of family, weather, general happenings and technogeekery...
The prototype of the blog...
Exploring the net gave me a craving to be able to just toss out a post or comment, something the TimeSink didn't lend itself to. Userland's EditThisPage sites allowed browser-based posting from anywhere you could log in, and without specialized software. Cool. Let the curtain rise on my own personal "Theatre of the Absurd."
The Blog... At about the same time the Userland servers were experiencing some severe growing pains,
CoffeeCup Software came out with an applet that allowed quick posting to a site. Essentially it's a wrapper that ftps the site down, stuffs the new content in, and uploads the new package to the site. Sweet. ...and for a hand-coder, that meant some posts could be composed right in the applet. That spelled the end of my ETP time as I moved the bloggery under my domain.
The Lion and the Sling... The Lion and the Sling started as a collaborative effort with
Dave Farquhar; since then several authors have allowed their works to be used to share ideas on Christianity. Still a work in progress, we've recently added a graphic artist to the fold. Feel free to drop in; it's not what you might expect...
The Learning Center... The Learning Center is a repository for things that don't really fit anywhere else on the domains (for the moment <g>). Currently there are only a few bits up over there, mostly because I need to reissue the password!
Stories... This area started out as the place I could move stories to if they could stand alone. Since then I've added several categories and used it as a jumping off point to photo galleries. As is usual here, things are constantly evolving...
The archives... ...because sometimes it's good to have a record of where you've been. That way, you can see how far you've come when the road ahead looks all too uphill.
Whitenoise... My answer to
"Favorites". Since I work from several systems during a given day, I needed a centralized link farm. Whitenoise was the answer. Yes, it's very random: I make no attempt to categorize and sort the entries. Every so often I'll go through and group some, but the key to Whitenoise is its randomness: I can post a link and then use the <Ctlt-F> key combo in any browser to search for items by what ever keywords I choose for the title. Simple, elegant...
Forever the Optimist...
What can I say? This is my wonderful wife's site. (Graphics by
Deb and
Debbie; layout by
moi...)
Fixed Focus... ...and on yet another day, someone was kind enough to compliment me on my photos and point out that they really are somewhat lost once they're in the archives. Okay. (Oh, yeah, my eyes are hazel, but the morning sky reflects very well...)
Threads...
MizKitty pointed out how bothersome it is for sites to not have an
"About" page. I've come to agree with her...
Places in Stone...
Coming, Fall 2003, a compilation of scenes from the past...
Site work
Site Design for The Other Cheek... So Tina Cheek posted a graphic and a font one day and asked for help in a site redo. ...and since I'm a sucker for "learning experiences", I took on the job. She's going to pay off in cookies, the edible kind<g>...
Site design for Surreally.org... ...and then another day dawned and
this wonderful lady decided to set up a forum to give her clients a place to find help. ...and I'd been wanting to find a way to use a shot of one of the lanterns in my Japanese garden. Synergy... Surreally!
Site Design for How Sweet it Is!...
Another project for the Cheekster, this time a dessert site. ...and a sweet deal.
Site Design for Spewing 4th Art...
Design a site for an artist? Are you kidding? Well, if you don't stretch your wings, you cannot fly. Lolo's art, our collaboration. ...and taking Moveable Type to another level for me.
Affiliations
Daynotes...
The Daynotes Gang is the reason I started posting to the net. I'd followed Dr. Pournelle for some time; and when the Gang coalesced out of the ether, I followed everyone's exploits and eventually became a member. ...a great group of guys.
Square jpegs...
Yep, you can more or less blame this page on Ann Stretton. I didn't particularly like buttons and banners, but
squares? Sure, why not?
Z-List...
"The red-headed stepchildren of the Internet"... Yep, that about says it all!
The Shadow Project...
Janet Powell took the simple shadow and turned it into something to look for when your camera is close by.
Cemetery Bloggers...
John Bolgiano's central listing for those of us who share his "strange little hobby"...
Small Spiral Notebook... I was minding my own business... Yeah, one of my September 11th pieces (from
Stories) was selected for
Small Spiral Notebook's 911 Reflection section in their Fall Edition. ...the first time one of my writings had been selected for use elsewhere.
Collaborations
The Back Porch...
Deb Smouse invited me to "come sit and chat a while", a decision I haven't regretted a bit. Home to the Thursday Threesome, weekly topical discussions and a great group of people. Come on over...
Sum and Substance...
Brandy Reed's wonderful literary and art project. What can I say?
Generation X... An ongoing discussion at garret vreeland's
dangerousmeta (he's a 'lower-case type'). Topics include
Apathy,
The Sixties,
Politics, and
The Seventies...
Homewreckers...
"Do it yourself" ...with an attitude!
Caryatid...
William B. Strong, Jr. runs a wonderful
photo tour site. One day while searching for words to to with his post of Auguste Rodin's
Fallen Caryatid With Stone, he ran across my cross post of a quote from Robert Anson Heinlein. He asked to use my words...
Saturday Snapshots
Lynn Rockwell's weekly challenge to photographers.
Geekery
GeoURL...A dandy service that shows the relative proximity of other registered websites in relation to yours. More information

here.
XML feed... You can copy this link to your newsreader or other RSS feed reader and receive automatic notices whenever anything in the TimeSink domain is updated. Other options include buttons for Amphetadesk (left) and Radio (right):
