Friday evening weather...

Last week I was on AIM with a friend and she mentioned the storm she was watching... I was so darned jealous because our weather can be rather boring...

Tonight is proving to be the exception: after a day when we hit 100F once again, we have a thunderstorm moving up the valley; it's riding low against the foothills and extends a few miles out into the flatlands. It gave us an absolutely brilliant light show on the way back from Brad's pizza party: we could see sheet lightning above the hills and ground strikes on the edges of the storm.

...and now, it's overhead. Daniel is completely mesmerized by the show; I've opened his blinds so he can watch (with the proviso he sleeps in tomorrow). He is so in his element...

...and I'm saving my work every few minutes <g>!

Metaphor...

I was looking for something to show how much this work week has meant to me. ...especially as I don't have all that much to show for it. Most of my work is really in the background: it's only when I don't do my job that people will even notice I exist.

...and then I recalled that big black bee that had been working so hard in the woodshed the other weekend. She certainly had something to show for her efforts. Check out the mound of tailings from her excavation:

The Thursday Threesome...

Onesome. Healthy. Tell us about one thing you did for yourself that's healthy - and not just physical, mental and emotional health matter, too! Physical: Changing from four wheel skates to blades few years back. I can now control my exercise regimen without it controlling me. ...and with my age and such, I need a routine I can keep. Mental: Starting to post an online journal a few years back. It definitely allowed me some serious catharsis and let me focus on the things that went 'right' in my day. Emotional: Starting the blog (this place) a year or so ago. Here, I'm much more free to unleash my take on life's absurdities as I stumble across them. ...and then there's the creative side that I'm allowing to develop. ...and the friends I've made through both sites. Speaking of which...

Twosome. Wealthy. What in life makes you feel wealthy in your heart? Friends... There's no two ways about that. ...and I'm counting my family in here as my friends also. Riches beyond compare...

Threesome. Wise. Share your favorite proverb or motto... or just make one up yourself. "Bloom where you're planted". As I go through life, it strikes me more and more that people gravitate to or are placed in positions for a reason. ...and I include the friendships in the Twosome as part of this.

How about your thoughts?

I have a house guest!

As I was looking around my work area this evening, I stumbled across a miniature tool case. I didn't recall ever seeing anything quite like it, so I opened it up. ...and found what appeared to be HTML tags and such!

It looks like a coding kit...

The only entity I could even link to such a small set of tools didn't seem likely. I mean, there'd been some discussion about them last week; but one showing up at my place just didn't seem likely.

...but I looked around a bit. ...and sure enough, I found my very own blog fairy hard at work:

Come on folks; you have to believe!

I said, "Hello" and introduced myself, but she seemed very well acquainted with me. ...and such cute little thing:

A busy little bee...

...and she sure seemed to be engrossed in something! ...and I wondered what could hold her attention so well.

Ah, a most discriminating reader:

Of course...

Gee, I sure hope she stays around for while. I could use some help from time to time. I think I'll name her Pixie...

Thank you, Peanut!

Hitchhikers...

I picked up another one this morning while blading, one of those little spiders that are caught on the wind and end up wherever the breeze sends them. Sometimes I can see entire generations riding the air currents as their webs provide support. Other times I only know one is around when she starts to rappel from the front of my sun visor...

I've learned to live with that. I mean, it's not like I have many choices. I'm rolling along at ten or twelve miles an hour and having to focus at least minimally on the road surface. ...and reaching up in reaction with a set of 'heavy hands' weights can cause serious things to happen.

...and then there's the issue of the intake manifolds (because there's serious air movement going on when I'm rolling): I've pretty much decided a spider munchie beats a spider in my nose any day.

So there are times like this morning when I just take one along for the ride. I mean, she was well behaved and more or less just hung there enjoying the scenery with me.

I do hope she enjoys her new home in my garden...

Camera Obscura...

Well, not exactly, as there is no real lens. ...and the aperture is 24 inches by 36 inches. Still...

Sunlight through the window

Sunlight reflected from a car window down the street, under the redwood canopy, through a window and against the living room wall (contrast raised for definition)...
