I'm glad I went out...

Yeah, it was cold, but it was a relaxing, focusing cold, if there is such a thing... The pool filter cut off as I swam to the bottom of the deep end; when I surfaced again, it was to a relative silence. The moon was rising, casting the shadows of the the tops of the redwoods against the side of the house. Looking straight up I realized I could see some stars; very nice, the air must be clearing. Closer down, the landscape lighting on the bases of the redwoods cast a warm glow against the ground.

When I got out, it was to air about the same temperature as the water. Gravity's pull was almost the only clue...

Yeah, a good coda to a long day.

Long day...

I've spent much of today cleaning and deciding and storing and hauling. I still have a little bit to do, but all I can think about is how cold that pool is going to be in a few minutes...

Ah, well...

The Thursday Threesome...

Onesome. Small. Is it a small world? In how many miles of space do you live your life? Yes, it is a very small space: I live my life within a fifteen mile circle most of the year; work is on one edge and home is on the other, with most of my shopping and outside time spent well within that circle. I do break out every so often, like for a snow trip in the spring, beach trips in the summer and the occasional day trip; but it sure feels like most of the year is spent inside that loop.

Twosome. Spiral. Ever felt as if you were on a downward spiral? How did you pull out of it? Yeah, about once a year or so. Once I realize I'm in it (and get what enjoyment I can from it), I remember a line I learned years ago: I need to get over this sooner or later; I might as well start now... No, that doesn't always work, but sooner or later it will kick in. Lately, I've leaned on my friends a bit more; and I've also taken to trying to do some writing mixed with photos (as seen on Sum and Substance) to stop the spiral before it gets too inward.

Threesome. Notebook. Notebooks and pens and crayons and glue...when you think about school supplies, what do you most remember? College-ruled paper... And handwriting that even I couldn't always read (see last week's Back Porch Topic).

How about you? Tell us all about it, over on The Back Porch...

Come on over and
chat!

Shameless plug update...

Last week I mentioned the Autumn Issue of Small Spiral Notebook was out. Well, the gang over there added a message board the other day and it's already hopping with information on yoga, some 9.11 thoughts (yeah, they used one of my stories about that day in the 9.11 Reflections section) and some recent book reviews.

Have a look...

From the Shinola department...

Is it GODZILLA?

brought to you by Quizilla

Hmmm... I guess it could also be from the What a crock department...

As long as the band and the shoe polish don't come after me for infringement.

So I got to thinking...

...how the reason I'm clearing out the library was so Brad could have a room. ...and then I got to thinking about the shed I put up this weekend.

Home away from home?

Yeah. ...chair, blanket, ice chest; it's never too early to prepare for living in the dorms.

At the Fosters Freeze after church...

Shelley, to the squawky box, "I'd like four small root beer smoothies, please..."

"Blzztt, uzzz, $4.xx, please!"

"I don't think so; they're $1.99 each, aren't they?"

"Zedtp, okay, $6.xx..."

"Keep trying!"

"Ssseept, $8.xx, please!"

"Deal!"

...delay while she's explaining to the driveup cashier why she is handing each of the boys their straws sans wrappers, "...otherwise, there's papers everywhere." "Here, Dan, here's yours; I can trust you."

...and of course I blow my straw paper right past her nose. ...and boys lose it. ..and I say, "Did anyone in this car not expect that to happen?"

Ummm... Yeah. But I'll buy her some M&Ms in a bit; that'll help...

Postscript for Linda and a few others: at the half full (as opposed to half empty <g>) point on the smoothie, adding in the morning's left over iced coffee makes for a delightful treat!

Onward with the day...

A little techie stuff...

Hey, I stuck a brief overview of the Moveable Type "Remember Me" fix up over on the other site.

Figured we might as well archive it where Google can find it...
