Come home safe
where trees flower,
and flowers bloom,
...and clouds dance,
...and sunsets happen.

Rites of passage...

Shelley called the office this afternoon with a question: The boys wanted to ride their bikes through the mud holes in the trail down at the field on the corner and, "Are there any sticker vines that will pop their tires?"

"No, there's nothing there that will hurt their bikes, but plan on a muddy mess and likely and injury or two," as I'm thinking that they are old enough to go out on their own a little and let some of life's experiences happen to them. ...and it was all too easy to visualize the trail and the potential for two boys on bikes who are used to sidewalks and streets.

Very tempting...

...and the guys reading this have all been there and the moms reading this have all dealt with the inevitable outcome. Sure enough, the second call came in about thirty minutes later.

I'd have thought maybe the soft sand at the turnaround down where they built the pool would have done him in...

Tracks in the sand...

...but it appears that mud at a turn was the culprit.

No turns allowed...

So, while Mom tended to 'more than a band aid, but less than stitches' with the oldest (Hey, Mom, you're really good at this!" Well, duh; Mom has plenty of street time of her own...), the junior member took care of washing the bikes and putting things away...

All in all, I think things turned out okay...

Yes, dear, I know: too much testosterone in the household...

The Thursday Threesome...

Onesome: Family- Hmmm... It seems like this weekend is a get together time for some people. How about you? Do you have a family gig to attend this weekend? Hosting one? ...or are you spending the weekend doing weekend things? Oh, my. We sometimes end up somewhere, but this weekend I may get lucky (yeah, I'm the hermit and Shelley is the social one). We have a tentative Sunday brunch, but the rest of the weekend seems to be free...

Twosome: Waffle- Okay, here's the tough one: Waffles or Pancakes? You should hear the discussions in some households! ...and what about those Belgian things? Inquiring minds want to know! The boys prefer waffles, but the cook prefers pancakes. ...although I'm not quite sure why the waffle iron was out last night. Me, I'll take a short stack with sausage any day!

Threesome: & Grill- The outdoor cooking season is close at hand! For those who live large outdoors, are we talking grilling or barbecuing? If you enjoy cooking outside, what is your specialty? ...and for the indoor crowd: do you cook anything reminiscent of outdoor cookery? Ah, yes!!! It is time to fire up the beast and see how the new rubs I picked up over the winter work out on the ribs and the tri-tip! ...and this year, Shelley is going to try out her new grill! Between us we should be driving everyone downwind quite crazy...

(Yep, that's how Sarah and I come up with some of these <g>!)

How about your answers? Post to your space and let us know, over on The Back Porch...

Come on over and chat!

Part II...

The plumed variety...

Celosia Plumosa

Both are the dwarf, only about six inches tall; the larger versions grow to several feet. I'll see if I can find any of them on my wanderings...

The weather report...

I was on my way into work this morning, listening to the latest change in the forecast and watching the skyline as things moved in from the west and south. ...and the radio says, "...chance of thunderstorms." ...and all that came to mind was, Ya' think???"

No, not smoke; that's a cloud formation...

...and the day carried on and the clouds came in and covered the sky in that springtime layered effect that looks as though you are looking up at dollops of whipped cream seen though the bottom of a clear glass plate.

...but the rain never came.

...and as I drove home from work, I even entertained the thought of blading before the rain hit, since the sky was changing once again in the west. ...but I ended up out on the patio doing some mundane household things as I planned my evening.

...and then I noticed the winds swirling a bit. ...and I looked up to see that sunlit effect against the trees where the sunlight is oh, so bright and coming from under the cloud cover. ...and that's when I looked back to the south.

Brown and grey in the clouds...

...and the lightning flashed between the clouds, and the thunder rumbled over the houses, and the winds swirled more as the setting sun continued to pump energy into the system.

...but the rain never came.

...and the kids came in with excited reports of seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder, "...almost straight above us, Dad" ...and Shelley spoke of the news showing a downpour just a few miles south. ...as a friend of hers called in to tell about the hail pounding her at the baseball game even closer.

...but the rain never came.

Even on rainy days...

Rainy days and Mondays...

I kept waiting for these two to get in under the weather...

True love?

...but I guess they're like us and will take anything for a "date night" <g>!
