Then again...

...we do get some sunsets out of it!

Just before it went to red...

Just a wash of red and orange and pink...

Dusty sunrise...

The sun just clearing the mountains...

Dusty roads...

Yep: What mountains?

...and trails.

That's how thick the dust is in the air here: you cannot get the sun's disk to show an edge until it is well up into the sky...

The Thursday Threesome...

Onesome: MT-- So, are you running Moveable Type? ...and have you had to deal with comment spam? If so, Jay Allen's MT-Blacklist Plugin is one cure ....and did you know T-3 regular Shawn has written a scripting hack to allow it to work with the comment notifier script? Ah, the geekiness of it all... heh. Nope, I don't currently use a CMS (Content Management System) on any of my sites (well, WordPress over at one place as an administrative blog), but I've had to deal with comment spam since I support some Moveable Type sites. ....and that plug in is slick, or I wouldn't be plugging it <g>!

Twosome: Black-- Hey, can you do "basic black"? ...or does your wardrobe consist of everything but black? Inquiring minds want a look into that closet! Give me black any day!!! My basic attire during the week is black jeans and a logo polo shirt. Sundays I change the logo... I do a fair amount of warehouse type work on my job and the black helps hide the dirt.

Threesome: List-- Are you a "List Person", one of those people who cannot make it through the day with out a to-do list? ...or maybe "listfull', with yellow sticky notes all about you? ...or are you "listless" and wandering about randomly getting things accomplished? Listless. Yes, I know. ...but the closest thing to a list I have is a PDA with info in it. Hmmmm... No, wait... I recently started using online worklists for any web work I have to do; that seems to be working out okay...

How about you? What's up in your world? Let us know, over on The Back Porch...

Come on over and chat!

"Dead on into the sun"...

...is now added to the desktops:

Click for a selection
Click the picture for the index

...and since I had a specific request, there's a 1200 x 768.

Let me know if you'd like me to put together a tutorial on how to save and set a desktop; that's not a problem. ...and to answer another question: No, the words do not appear on the full sized versions.

Enjoy...

This morning...

...I was reminded once again of that Crazy Neighbor Lady as I tried to gather my wits about me and get the kids off to school. I mean, I'm not wearing bunny slippers or anything like that (after all, this is California and sandals can be worn year round), but I tend to throw on whatever tank top and pair of shorts I took off when I went to bed and then throw a baseball cap on top to cover the hair mess as I wander aimlessly toward the kitchen in search of a brain. There's not much hope. ...or hope of remembering much of anything that needs to be done before we leave. The kids have figured out that there are no reminders from me: if you don't have it when we hit the door, it's just not going to happen.

I do try to remember the pager and cell phone just in case, but those three miles or so are sometimes just a blur. ...and so far I haven't stopped at a stop sign and waited and waited and waited for it to change, but the other day both boys pointed out that the traffic signal we'd just passed through had been red...

Dropping Daniel off means I then get to deal with driving into the rising sun for the return trip. ...and with the dust in the air, it's like watching some science fiction movie about a desert planet. ...and I do have a tendency to miss the turn towards home as I squint down the roadway.

...and then there's the challenge to my social ablilities when I drop Brad off a little while later. I'm showered and such; and the cap is off, but the coffee hasn't even cooled enough to sip and these people wave at me and I'm past clueless as to who they are. I'm sure that "Shelley's husband" covers the soccer crowd, but the others I'm clueless on. I smile and wave and try not to embarrass Shelley or Brad too much. ...but I really, truly have no clue who most of them are.

...and then there are things like the shock to my sensibilities this morning: As Brad was getting his backpack and such out of the trunk, I realized the lady in front of me hadn't cloned her kids; she really had four, blond, pony-tailed girls, but two just had to be twins. That's really too much to contemplate. ...but the worst came as I drove by her SUV on my way out and realized there was a fifth one in the car seat in back, pony tail and all. Five of them. Five. No way...

Mornings really shouldn't involve thinking...

Perspective...

Well maintained and cared for...

Hard to say when they were last readable...

About one hundred and fifty feet from each other...

Addiction...

I tried. I really, really tried... Sure, I carried the cameras with me when I went out today (yes, at church too), but I really walked away from the opportunities as they came along. ...and they do for me: a pale purple gazania at the stadium as I walked up the hill to pick up Daniel from the soccer game, the glowing dandelion puff ball in the long rays of the afternoon sun on the way down the same hill, the bi-color rose peeking around the edge of the fence a few blocks from home on the return leg of the blading route, the bright yellow canna thrusting upward over the fence in perfect alignment with the setting sun just a block later!

No, no, no... Just one day. One day when I take it easy and beg the Muse to release me...

When I returned from blading, I just took it very slow so I couldn't make it to either of those shots. Oh, I did walk around the front yard a bit, looking at angles and making a mental note about exactly what time those low rays hit the tops of the one bush and highlight only the newest growth; tomorrow is another day, you know. ...but better to take the garbage to the curb and get a shower and have dinner and use some stock photos from oh, so long ago ( like, say, two days...) for today's post here.

I lasted until I was almost in the shower; that's when I glanced out the window and saw how the sunlight was only hitting the tops of the bloomed out agapanthus stalks:

One narrow path...

<sigh...>

Even in death...

Yeah, like that...
