Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday SundayWell, heck... I had to replace a keyboard for the first time in a while. The interacton of young family members and my habit of having a glass of water on the keyboard tray once again made for an interesting event this weekend. ...only this time the amount of water in direct contact with the keyboard surface was enough to fry its little brain. ...only that wasn't evident for over a day. Oh, sure, the <alt> key appeared to be giving me a bit of a problem, but I figured that was just a bit of the 'whatever' that seems to find its way into and under things. ...but it wasn't until I dropped back to a Windows box that the problem became 'very' interesting: you see they keyboard I prefer is marketed by HP as a 'multimedia' unit, and it has some nice software for softkeys and a decent set of media keys. That's not in play on this Linux box, but it sure showed up on the first Windows box I hopped over to, especially when I tired using the right-hand <alt> key. Oh, yeah. You know the "Shutdown Now!!!" command? Evidently the series the software interpreted from that keypress hit that command in the box I use to post photos with. Joy... ...and of course I had to go over to the other Windows box to see if the same thing would happen there (no, I don't learn all that quickly <g>). ...and of course it did the same thing. Ah well... Dental work in the afternoon; I really didn't want to do much tonight... I forgot to mention a little salvage trick I've added into my browsing sessions on my machines: it's a FireFox extension called SessionSaver. It doesn't do much of anything; it simply brings your browser back up to the layout it was in when it was shut down (planned or unplanned). ...and by that I mean the number of window and the tabs within each all loaded up just like they were. How cool is that? Well, at least cooler than it is locally. The mid-nineties stuff has come on so fast people and plants are still adjusting to it. One of our attempts to keep the heat under control in the house is to move some of the cookery outdoors: for the full effect<g>.) While we're on the subject of Firefox and its extensions (man, there are a bunch!) Gary Berg tossed out Tab Mix Plus as one he likes. I'm going to be trying that puppy out: the "Open links that open a new window in: New Tab" is enough to make it cool for me. Other extensions I use: InfoRSS, a newsreader (nice, but quirky. I'm still learning it; Cecil, please let me know if this one hammers you from an SBC/PacBell/California IP); Web Developer, mandatory when I'm working on sites; FasterFox, a page cacher; FireFTP (because I want it to work); and TinyURL Creator (which I should remember I have for things like today's T-3). Oh, and I'm going to be evaluating Performancing, a blogging package that looks interesting for some sites I deal with... "They" are calling for rain this weekend? WT??? You've got to be kidding me. Sure, we've had hail in June, but usually we're done until October once the hot weather hits. ...and now thunderstorms? Nah... I will be glad when today is over; it's been an event-filled week (or two) and I think we all could use some down time. Yeah, yeah, downtime to get projects done in. Sure... 101F Thursday and rain yesterday on the way home from work? I'm thinking this may be a good weekend to get some inside work done regardless of how things go outside <g>. Daniel has been helping me clean in the garage lately; one of his motivations is access to my CD collection. Saturday's observations on his latest listening experiences:
