The Time Sink

Monday

Yes, I'm behind on email. Yes, I'm behind on reading. Yes, I'm behind on tech work, household stuff, things in general. Nope, I don't see any relief in sight.

...or in site.

Tuesday

Grandma (my mom), please put your coffee down before you read the rest of this. Thank you.

Overheard this evening (and somewhat appropos my sonic boom comment the other day:
"Mom, I need you to go to the store and buy a paper bag to make a bookcover for my history book."

Buy?   Buy!   Buy?!?

My deepest appreciation to the Queen of Paper Bag Book Covers, circa 1955 through whenever.

Buy... Bye...

Wednesday

To clarify: evidently the current 'stretchy' bookcovers are not sufficient to protect a 'new' book as well as good, old-fashioned paper bags. ...although the thought that anything short of hinged diamond plate could protect a book from a hyper-kinetic seventh-grader...

Oh, man, I forgot about the oil cloth book covers mom taught us to make! Those were cool too. ...and would last an entire year.

Yes, we explained the concept of "paper or plastic?"...

Thursday

Ah, the school year. ...and homework. ...and the reality of junior high for one. ...and no easy electives for the other.

Hoo boy!

Friday

Realty check: Daniel has dropped Spanish and moved back to choir. That will force him into foreign language his last two years, but it should allow him to focus on two classes that are core to his program and not intuitive to him.

Brad is learning that making the golf team (they won their first tournament yesterday) means planning out homework is a major priority so the evening after the tournaments isn't an overload.

Mom and dad are hanging in there...

Saturday

So, it's been a typical Saturday of yard work and house work and home work so far. ...but the boys are mostly done, and I'm mostly done in <g>. ...and after the prelim provided by Cinncy and Pitt last night (which actually was a better game than the score indicates), I'm more than ready for the Ohio-Texas show!

...the only thing is, we're not going to be able to watch that one cover-to-cover because the local guys have the Oregon Ducks coming into town with kickoff set for 1900. Hmmm... It must be time to fire up the grill and cook up some sausage and steaks and hope we have duck for dessert!

Oh, yeah...

Sunday

Well, at least the sausage was good. Ah, heck, so was the game; these guys can play at the PAC-10/Top Twenty (+/-) level... Time will tell this year. ...and yes, Boise is going to be a bear (as always).

...and Manning won; which of course means Manning lost. Shelley had issues with that game <g> (what's a mother to do?).

...and I'm way behind on email, but I have to get some prep done for the local fair or neither Brad nor I will have entries.

Later, folks.
