One person's trash...
Blading earlier this evening was interesting. I think I would have figured out it was a holiday weekend here in the States even if I didn't have tomorrow off: some streets on the route were missing their usual load of cars parked curbside, while others were packed with cars with out of state plates. ...and the aroma of barbeques and grills was everywhere!
...and on the way back, I noticed that the field Brad had taken that walk in still had some color to it; I'd thought the entire place was dried up. So I headed back to the field after I took my blades off and found this:
Yeah, I know it's a weed, but that's such a nice shade of purple. ...and its bloomed out state is rather nice also:
Just seeing what there is to see out there...

Shilling for friends...
It's been a bit of a long day here. ...and after accumulating several layers of sweat, dirt, charcoal dust and what have you, nothing but nothing beats a shower or a bath with some soap from Loveland Soapworks! Yep, my partner in crime from the Thursday Threesome over on the Back Porch makes the greatest specialty soaps in the world. I can personally recommend her 'Citrus Scrubbie' as a great product to get those layers of grime off!
...and since this weekend is her one year anniversary of the place, why not not drop by and check out the celebration auctions?
Man, that is just shameless <g>... 5/24/2003, 2305Sunset flight...
Hmmm... I suspect I may have to apply for membership in the Sunset Cherry Picker's Society <g>...
5/24/2003, 2226Good morning, JHR!
5/24/2003, 0730It's around 0730 at the start of the Memorial Day Weekend. We've been up since 0'dark30 because we're having a yard sale today. Brad and I have already made the Starbucks run, while Daniel and Shelley got themselves ready for the morning.
I fired up The Beast before we left so it would be ready by the time we brought the stuff out of the garage for the sale. Right now, there are two tri-tip roasts (with a dry rub) and one large rack of ribs loaded up in a nicely balanced heat.
This morning, I taught Brad how to fill up the carriers with the lump mesquite from the big bag. He set me up with about twenty pounds worth; that should be enough to get me through the day. I'm using the same rub I've used before on the beef, but I'm tying out a new one on the ribs. In the past I've used a mopped sauce, but I figure this is a good time to try something new.
Oh, and there's a half pound of country sausage in a cast iron skillet cooking on the top of the fire chamber. It should be ready about the time the coffee wears off.
Hey, I couldn't get anyone around here interested in trying a batch of those fried up daylily pods you mentioned last week after you saw my picture post. I figured at least one of this bunch would go for it. ...must come from growing up in California <g>.
Here's hoping your weekend is going well. I'll check in with you later. Say, in about twelve hours or so; the meat should be done about then,
dan
