Onesome: Cheap-- Cheap thrills? Are you and yours doing anything for Halloween? Parties? Trick or treating? Staying home with the lights out and an axe visible in the window? I have to admit I like the axe idea, but Shelley gets bothered when I play selected cuts from The Nightmare before Christmas with the speakers in the windows <g>. Nope, we'll be off to church to let Brad have some fun at the booths and bounce houses and such. This year Daniel is old enough to help out (he's going to be a DJ and handle the background music) so just maybe Shelley and I can have some quiet time wandering about together...
Twosome: wax-- Hey, are you a 'candle person'? I mean, is that one of your decorating motifs? ...or does this fall under something like the "No Sharp Objects" rule in your life? I love 'em. All colors and shapes and most scents. Unfortunately, since I have been told my only sense of taste is in my mouth, I leave the decorating to Shelley...
Threesome: treatment-- Speaking of treatments: do you decorate for Fall? Halloween? Thanksgiving? ...or just pretend that deceased plant in the corner really just lost its leaves for the winter? Oh, yeah, flags out front that change every month, interior stuff seasonally, Christmas decorations outside... This year I held off on the "pumpkin patch" I often put up simply because life has been a bit too full.
How about you? Wax eloquent at your place and let us know, over on The Back Porch...

In the distance...
As I headed out blading this evening, the sun was setting in that huge orange ball effect we've been having lately from all the dust in the air. ...and I wondered if any of the shots I'd snapped either on the way to work or on the way home would be usable here or over on the daily pages. But no matter; there are other evenings. ...and I needed to concentrate on form as I was heading into the wind for a change.
...and yeah, that's a royal pain when I'm tired from work, but almost worth it on the front side because of that tail wind I pick up on the middle turn. ...but as I cleared that corner and headed past the Snail Lady's place, I realized the sun had completely disappeared behind either the dust or maybe some clouds. ...and that it was a bit darker than it had been over to the west, but just low, not high into the sky.
The answer to that riddle showed up as soon as I made the turn back to the north: the wind had changed and I was heading toward the leading edge of a dust storm about a half mile in front of me. Wonderful...
There's not much to do when I get caught out like that; I just tried to get to my next turn before the beginnings of it. ...and that pretty much worked: I made the turn and now was running with the wind back toward home. ...for about another half mile or so. Yep, sooner or later I'd have to turn back into it for the run home.
...and when I did, I realized something was missing. Normally at this time of year, you have those wonderful Halloween winds, the ones that move the fallen leaves along the asphalt leaving those scaping sounds that make you wonder if it's the wind or if it's something else. ...but this time there were only a few sycamore leaves like the bored one from last week being pushed along with the dust eddies. I did see some miscellaneous feathers floating along, but that was about it. Kinda' sad, really; I'd have liked to have heard those scaping noises as I passed by the houses with their decorations all lit up...
